Sunday Postcard Art - Fair Maidens

 To all my friends who know me as a digital freak, I am here to tell you that my postcard is mostly hand drawn, using Prismacolors.  The sunflowers were painted by me.  The lines are from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The Three Muses Challenge - A Tale of Two Fishies

This is a true story.  Day after day, Frogmorton F. Fishwrangler studied the painting (by Vincent Van Cod) of his late father, on the wall above his cramped quarters.  All he could think of was escape to the freedom of the outside world,  knowing that it was better to risk the cruel hooks and barbs of cruel fortune (and fishermen) than be a prisoner in his own home.  Sadly, before he could live his dream he outgrew the four  walls that surrounded him and he expired in a sea of broken glass and gushing water.
His life was commemorated by the commissioning of a portrait by the famous Spanish painter, Pablo Fishcasso.  A movie "Free Frogmorton" was made and was a big hit at the box office.  We miss you, Frogmorton.
The fish painting (often trotted out for fishy challenges) is an Ozstuffe Originale.  The fishtank was Googled.

Take a Word #20 - Green

Happy St Patrick's Day on March 17th.  I was educated in Catholic schools which were very much influenced by the presence of Irish nuns.  St Patrick's Day was a big day on the calendar.  Students from all Catholic schools were taken by bus to a large stadium where we had to march in school groups.  Woe betide anyone who was out of step because it was bound to be noticed by the eagle-eyed nuns.  Afterwards there was Irish dancing, sporting events and lots of icecream and soft drinks.  The "wearing of the green" was a strong political statement in the days of the "Troubles" when, by some strange logic, people were forbidden to wear green colours.  Today, sadly, the big day seems to have descended into over-flowing Irish pubs and green beer!

Sunday Postcard Art - Number One

I wasn't sure how to go about illustrating Number One.  I had one idea which was probably not politically correct!  A very old song, by Irving Berlin, kept coming into my head.  I don't know all the lyrics but the first line is "All alone, waiting by the phone" so here is ONE sad lady, waiting in vain for the phone to ring.
The main image was drawn by me.  I made the house from papers by Createwing Designs (also the background).  The pedestal and phone are from Katie Pertiet at Designer Digitals.

The beautiful image, perfect for spring, is a freebie from Diane at Mixed Media Monday.  It is a parting gift for all her Blog friends as the challenge has been closed.  Thankyou Diane!  We are sorry to see MMM go but no doubt we will see you back from time to time in other challenges.

Isn't it amazing that a slim 4 x 6 card looks much larger when turned on its side - at least on the computer screen..  This in itself is an OPTICAL ILLUSION.

I always feel sad when I look at this picture.  Here are two young people setting out on a life together and in ten years they were both dead.  Nevertheless, my grandfather began a long and prolific branch of the McDonnell family tree with five generations since his death.

All my own work except for the face which is from the late Suzee Que at Flickr.  The words come from the title of a Cole Porter song from "Kiss Me Kate".  If you have seen the musical on film you will remember the amazing dance routine by Ann Miller to this song - and the very clever lyrics.  Showing my age!!

Three Muses Challenge - Use a quote!

I guess this is another way of saying "square peg in a round hole".  I found the quote somewhere (not sure where) and it spoke to me.  I decided to illustrate it with a bit of silliness.  I have had the screaming woman in my stash for a very long time.  I think it was a freebie from Stockxchange.  Other elements are by Fiddlette aka Christine Honsinger.

Collage Obsessions - Transform

SPA Challenge - Steampunk

The image (from e-Vint) was originally black and white.  I have overpainted the head and shoulders and given her a new hairstyle (and hat).
