This is a true story and everyone knows I don't tell fibs! My niece, Venus Higgins, lives in a world of fantasy based on her love of Roman and Greek mythology. Her name was originally "Gladys" but she changed it to "Venus" to honour one of her heroines. She loves to create re-enactments of famous paintings inspired by mythology hence this one which she calls "The Re-birth of Venus Higgins".
No, that is not a lump in my cheek. It's my tongue.!!
I painted most of the picture except for the face and body (altered by adding an unlikely head of hair and a red leotard) which is a Flickr-free-to-use image. I Googled the giant clam.
Very cute!
ReplyDeleteand like the side story too. I still remember hearing my first mythology story in school and always try to remind myself to read them again.
Cheers!
If that shell closes, Venus is in trouble! Great use of your painting skills, Marie. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle when I read Bev's comment, Marie! If that shell snaps shut, Venus will definitely be in trouble! LOL! Well done, Marie! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Oh, I just love your (or your niece's...) new interpretation of this famous painting and the old myth! I think we all need some kind of rebirths every now and then - both mentally and physically. Lovely piece!

ReplyDeleteWell at least your niece has imagination, - which is more than can be said of some people..It must run in the family:o)
It's so imaginative, Marie - I'm sure Botticelli must be rolling with laughter.
ReplyDeleteFantastic colours, great summer feeling.
ReplyDeleteI like Gladys, she has style and imagination, but someone should tell her leotards are sooooo not fashionable and she should expect a visit from the fashion police. Love the colours, and of course, your painting is fantastic Marie.

ReplyDeleteAnn, your piece makes bells ring in my mind! I LOVE plays on words, graphics that tie into text--this work is a tour de force. That background sends shivers of delight down my spine--a mossy roof? Peeling bark in the deep, deep woods? Something from under a microscope? Thanks for initiating this challenge, and for your comments on my blog.
