Yes, this is my (in)famous Uncle Paul (by marriage) who features regularly in my artwork. The fact that his poor little wife, Julia, is standing while he is seated sums up their marriage. (She was my mother's sister).
The photograph of church door was Googled, the photo of the bridal couple is from my family album. Layers by Rosey Posey (SBG) and Vera Lim were added.
Hmmmm..definitely a spooky relationship! Nicely done, Marie!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful picture despite good old uncle Paul...I think that was pretty much the way of things around that time, I imagine there were many hellacious husbands.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how much expression and quiet thoughts old photos can convey. He does have a bit of a smug look about him and she a bit tentative. A beautiful door and altogether rich collage Marie. Wonderful entry as always!
ReplyDeleteLong-suffering Julia is such a pretty bride. This is a gorgeous vintage piece, Marie. You do these SO well!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, poor Aunt Julia, he obviously started off as he meant to carry on, as they say! beautiful vintage piece, Marie which you excel at so superbly!
ReplyDeleteJust fabulous! Wonderful to use family photos as well. This could go in your Album next week! xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece, Marie! I think it's a lovely photo, and the bride stands because the dress looks better that way!
ReplyDeleteIs he really as bad as you "paint" him Marie? Lovely, luscious layers - an intricate piece!!
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to look at work with personal photo's. Uncle Paul actually looks kind of smug to me, LOL!
ReplyDeleteDarla
Marie, this couple looks mismatched from the start! Dear, sweet Julia looks like a saint while Uncle Paul has a sort of belligerent air about him! But, I love the art!
ReplyDeleteTerrific piece of artwork. I believe men took their role then very seriously and believed they ruled the roost.............but can see Julia is humouring him, because she knows its all going to change after that day.....lol Annette x
ReplyDeleteI bet he wouldn't have looked so smug had he known you were going to dress him in all kinds of weird and wonderful garb .... I remember the pink fluffy boots. And I also bet aunt Julia is having the last laugh now.
ReplyDeleteEvery picture tells a story, and that certainly seems true here, Marie. I love how you have told it!
ReplyDeleteHmm. It sounds like he was a real jerk! Lovely collage, though.
ReplyDeleteGhosts from the past may be painful, but most of the time they are just ghosts... Yours are very charming.
ReplyDeleteUncle Paul seems really pleased with himself.
ReplyDeleteBut Marie, your challenge art is really great despite who you had to work with.
Paulette
Marie, you have made a perfect background and surrounding for this fantastic photo! The occasion seems to be so full of future promises - too bad it didn't turn out so well. Beautifully composed and layered piece!
ReplyDeleteEverything blended together so well in this Marie!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful. I love the vintage feel.
