The Three Muses Challenge - Blackbirds

First of all, I apologize to all my blog friends for not keeping up with my comments this week. My brother passed peacefully away and, as his next of kin, all the arrangements were my responsibility and it was a real eye-opener to realise just how many arrangements there are to be dealt with.

Mr E.A. Poe was known to enjoy a drink or two and he possibly visited at least one "gin joint" in his life where he may have encountered a blackbird. Well, anything's possible! Perhaps the raven quoth more than "Nevermore"! Perhaps, not having an original thought in his tiny brain, he had to borrow from the experts - in this case the screenwriters of Casablanca!! So apologies to Humphrey Bogart and the writers for shamelessly using their famous quote.

Mixed Media Monday - Vintage Children

I know the exact vintage of this child. I cannot tell a lie. It's me, It is I, c'est moi!! It's a bit sad to admit that one is VINTAGE (circa early 1940's, age 15 months). I was wearing a bib then and I am approaching the age where I might be wearing a bib again!! Yikes.

Sunday Postcard - Steam Punk

The Grand Duchess, Davida du Chovny, was a modern woman for her times. She believed in the Industrial Revolution and, in a thoroughly modern way, became the poster girl for progress.
I had fun with steam punking the Duchess, especially finding a new use for hot hair balloons which here serve as the top of her gown and disguise her flat-chestedness. I found my bits and pieces for this picture from Maya at Scrapbookgraphics, Lauren Bavin at Digital Scrapbook Place and SherrieJD at Scrapartist. The beautiful image is a freebie from the lovely Ms Terri Kahrs at Pringle Hill Studios (thanks, Terri).

ACF - Sisters

Thanks to the ladies at Art Creations Friday for the most beautiful image. I created some transparency in the image and layered it over blended backgrounds by Phuong Ton at Scrapbookgraphics. Also did a little touching up with colour here and there. Looks better enlarged.

The Three Muses Challenge - Incognito

This must be a true story because everyone knows I don't tell lies (well, not very often). Louis, not Louis XVI, but Louis, hairdresser to the artistocracy, fell foul of the revolutionaries. He dressed as a woman to conceal his true identity but couldn't bear to give up his neat moustache and goatee and that proved to be his downfall.
I Googled a painting of Marie Antoinette (now greatly altered), a man's face (also altered) and the guillotine. Backgrounds and butterfly by Lori Davison at Scrapbookgraphics.

MMM Challenge - Party Animals

I tried to draw the kangaroos but couldn't quite get there and then I hit on the idea of scanning an outline from my granddaughter's colouring book. This I did and then painted them, adding party clothes and, ahem, beverages. Background pieces by Fiddlette of Scrapartist.

The Three Muses Challenge - Using Newspaper

Poor Rose. All she can afford to clothe herself is newspaper! I painted the face and used a sheet of aged newspaper (from JenU Designs) and a paper rose by Irene Alexeeva.
